The Skull Lady

It hurts a lot when my face makes acquaintance with the ground, it is not my intention, I all as it hits me, a bullet, right in my back. At least it was surprising, I didn't have to look at the weapon that fired it, it hits me surprisingly but hurts nonetheless. I know that at the moment I fall and lie on the ground, defenseless, it is over. For a second I try to accept my faith and don't turn my head, I face the long way ahead of me but I can hear the steps coming closer as the echo of the weapon disappears in the wind. Finally the steps stop and I hear the sound of someone sitting down but I still won't turn my head, I am feeling the pain and try to bite my teeth together, I press against the ground with my dirty hands but the pain is only relieved after I feel the warm flow of blood flowing out of my wound. I hear something rustling behind me for a moment and the sound of a lighter appears. The curiosity is winning, I try to turn my head and roll my body halfway to the side, it works, but it is very painful. The person is just sitting there, on a box, in this alley, looking at me with those bright brown eyes that drown in that black paint on her face. She blows a cloud of smoke in the air, her glance does not move away from me right now. A few seconds of silence and the woman finally caught interest in the night sky. I don't think about fleeing, it would be useless, so I just wait for her to speak, she knows I am nervous, the more blood I lose, the more my body starts to shake and my vision becomes blurry but only slightly. She holds the cigar, at least I think it is a cigar, I can't see it clearly, between her teeth and starts to kneel behind me and leans over my body. Her hands are starting to rifle through the pockets of my jacket, she forcefully pushes me on my chest again and turns me on the other side to search for something in the other pockets, but nothing. Now she ransacks the pockets of my pants and pulls out a piece of paper. She uncoils the paper and reads on her own for a moment, no expression on her face. She nods very slightly, barely noticeable and packs the piece of paper in one of her back pockets. She is still above me, kneeling on one knee, the other one serves as a rest for her left arm, she uses the right one to take out her cigar and blow out another cloud of smoke. Now she stands up and presses my torso on the ground with her left foot, her boots are uncomfortable, they have a very painful shape, probably to assure she wouldn't slip. I can hear more rustling and it seems that the woman has found for what she has been looking for, silence for a few seconds and I look at the street a few meters ahead of me again, I wanted to go there and flee in the masses of people walking, but I couldn't. Now there is that sound, that goddamn sound of a weapon, it is clicking as she must pull back the barrel, I close my eyes and tense my facial muscles and as much of my body as possible, passing a few seconds more. I can hear it, the shot, I probably hear it shorter than everyone else, as the projectile has penetrated my skull and blood spills all over the floor but that does not matter anymore.
