' Wrote:Iv seen a Junker flying a Bounty Hunter Gunboat around New York, his RP excuse is that he stole it from a Bounty Hunter decommisioning base. Im wondering if people can use a RP excuse to use factions ships that there faction could never obtain.
If it is allowed, then where does it stop? Can people then Fly Liberty Battleships with Outcast tags and say they magicaly nicked it from the Liberty navy?
I'm sorry, but that is not true. I never said anything of the kind. You've jumped to your own conclusions contrary to supplied data.
I had been looking for some time to invest in a gunboat to provide the Junkers, collectively, with a little more firepower, and for the express purposes of the defense of the greater family and their holdings, against whatever threat they may face.
Most of the gunships were candidates, the Rheinland gunboat, Corsair gunboat, and BHG gunship were the most likely candidates. The Kusari, IMG, and Hacker ships were out.
The Rheinland gunboat (not to mention the Cruiser and Battleship, but who wants one of either?), were prime candidates due to the presence of so many wrecked Rheinland capital ships in Sigma-13, a result of the war between Rheinland and the GMG. Yanagi is sitting right on top of that battlefield, and what do Junkers do? They salvage. Salvage isn't limited to simply tearing pieces of scrap metal off of derelict hulks, but it extends well into collection and repurposing hardware of all kinds, which logically would include the salvage and reconditioning of vehicles, providing they can swing it. There were a number of problems with the Rheinland Gunboat, first and foremost, the bloody thing is green. It is also huge, and I would think, would require a fairly sizable compliment of crew to operate. I've never known any two Junkers who could see eye to eye, and the larger the crew, the more disagreement and conflict you're going to have. Two other considerations were that either Rheinland or the GMG would have made the tattered wrecks in S13 utterly inaccessible or unusable to either side. Stripped of all essential hardware, computers wiped, thoroughly booby trapped, etc. The radiation field would be a severely hostile environment to work in as well, and it could take decades to get one of those beasts online, and would likely have rendered the wrecks thoroughly irradiated, and so utterly useless.
I had my eye on the Corsair gunboat simply for the fact that it looked like a giant, rusted scrap heap. A few considerations came into play here. Given the all out war on the Outcasts, and their desperate conflicts with their allies, namely the Hackers, Hessains, and Mollies, as well as the Lawful, it seemed most likely to me that virtually every ship constructed would either be in current use, or destroyed beyond any hope of repair. Though perhaps one could be nicked from a Bretonian impound lot. It was also huge, and I imagine, would require a large crew compliment to take it go zoom and other ships go boom.
The BHG Light Gunship won out for a number of reasons. It is small, tiny in fact, and it is reasonable that it could be manned by a small crew. It isn't green, though sadly, it isn't a rusty piece of scrap, either. It also seemed to be to be more accessible to a band of apt miscreants bent on commandeering or salvaging it. The BHG isn't engaged in any all out wars of survival, they only fight for money, and there isn't always enough work to go 'round. Lack of desperate need, and sometimes lack of work, can and usually does create surpluses. Add to that the fact that the BHG Gunship is, apparently, now relatively obsolete within the guild fleet and generally falling out of favor within the guild due to the advent of the Orca (whether players feel the same or not), it seemed plausible that there would be a few parked and out of use, and perhaps more were decommissioned due to age and obsolescence, awaiting retrofitting or sale to enterprising mercenaries or independent hunters within the guild.
So an enterprising Junker family and their Junker buddies drifted into a lot, after spending a great deal of resources on locating a prime target, ensuring their approach would be masked, and that security forces would be distracted. Approached their target from an ideal vector, low em and heat sig, breached the ship's hull, and with their extensive knowhow and skill, managed to bring the reactor online burning residual fuel, long enough to vector towards a predetermined rendezvous point and burn the engines long enough to get the ship up to speed, and escape into an asteroid field where the vehicle was towed along a contrary flight path, and a number of small, reconfigured transports also departed at contrary vectors. Pursuers, unable to get a clear reading amongst the interference of the field, split up to follow the various trails. Junker and mercenary escort turn and engage, overwhelming those that pursue the correct escape vector. The vehicle is towed from Manchester to Magellan, the Hackers amused at the nutty exploits of those wily junkers, into Leeds, and then into Dublin, and finally to New London, where the vehicle is docked at Trafalgar for retrofitting and repair. It is repuposed, armed with Cerberus guns and transport turrets, and recommissioned as "The Range Rider" to patrol and defend outlying Junker territory and facilities, to defend Rochester against the Xeno threat, to defend Yanagi against Wild incursions, to keep the peace at Kreuzburg and Trafalgar, and to help ensure the orderly flow of black market good and Junker profit through all of the above. It operates within the range of a salvaged IMG asteroid mining ship converted to be used by the family as a mobile base of operations, open to and partially operated by, all Junkers, and so will be seen in far down range from those territories mentioned above, seeking opportunity and protecting Junker interests.
As I'm not much of a dramatical type, I really don't write very good backgrounds, so I opt not to do so, not that I have the time to write mini novels for your benefit, and today this basically ate up the entirety of the short time I can devote to playing this game. I prefer to roleplay in game, partially due to time constraints, but mostly because that is where its done, and for me where it's fun.
And the existing bounty? Well, that's just gravy to me, far as I'm concerned. It was a theft, though my character will never admit to stealing. The vehicle was repurposed, unused property. Salvage, in his opinion. I didn't expect anything less. Fine roleplaying, that bounty, as opposed to constant, incessant OOC banter in system and harassment in private channels. I often wonder why I don't see anyone harassing Junker characters over their choice to operate house corporation designed and constructed transports and trains, which such entities are their expressed enemies, and when so many other alternatives are available to them. Background story!
Moreover, why this misconception that the BHG and the Junkers exist in a state of enmity? In addition to what Tenacity said, while Junkers operate outside of the dominion of law to a very great extent, not all are criminals, and exceedingly few of those are known criminals, or even suspects of actual crimes. Many are well presumed to be legitimate based on evidence, though all are treated as shady individuals not to be trusted, not even by criminals, and rightly so. If it's more profitable to us, we'll happily betray your arse to the guild, military or LEOs.
