when you are ingame , dock on a planet or station

press enter to bring up the chat block
then type
/renameme <new ship name>
for example if you want to rename to bossman you would use the command like this
/renameme bossman press enter
the game will then kick you after 10 seconds and the ship will be renamed to bossman
