Good to see you are gracious in defeat.
Actually, it fits in nicely with people who have busy RL and can only play for a few minutes at a time. It's not the best for long-term profit, but if you can only log for about 5 minutes, it's a nice situational credit-maker. At the very least, you can pay for a shiny new VHF (or at least a few refills) in a single Ore run, considering the price drop to Armor Upgrades. Whether or not it's "cool" or not is irrelevant because pragmatism will win out in the end anyway. And pragmatism says "I might have to F1 my 5ker in space where anything could happen to it, or I can load up, go, and spend more time pvping."
If the devs truly wanted to kill Jumptrading, there are no less than five separate ways they could do it that I can think of right now.
Jack up the prices of Jump Drive Batteries even more to the point any Jumptrading would result in a net loss
Make it so that ships carrying commodities are not Jumped
(alternately) forcibly jettison all cargo on executing a Jump
Re-introduce the 4-system range
Make Jump Drives take up cargo again
Some combination of the above
So... What defeat? I wasn't even aware I was up against Antonio for anything, he was just complaining about Jumptrading without citing reasons and I was offering a defense of it.
EDIT: @Antonio There is one very good way to avoid interaction at the push of a button. It's called "F1 and select a new character". The current Jump Drive setup is better-suited to rapid deployment of heavy support than anything else (JD3 gets you in or out of any system in 30 seconds guaranteed).
I get where you're coming from, but when all is said and done, you're one of the more responsible players and you would make a reasonable demand when pirating. For all the effort to avoid interaction that could be made, nine times out of ten it actually is cheaper to pay the pirate on your 5ker than it is to doj the interaction on your 1800 cargo max flying brick.
I understand that Jumptrading got a bad name for interaction avoidance, but at the end of the day, it's really cool to show off your awesome hardware, which is ultimately what THP is about. We run on Rule of Cool over here.
