Born into a family of warriors with an penchant for evangelism, Renato left his home for the 72nd when the renegade battlegroup departed the Nacion's homeland to pursue their own agenda. Not seeing eye to eye the religious values of the D'Angelo's, Renato sought to embrace the other half of his family's legacy; that of the pilot. He won many victories against Gallia serving under the 72nd's banner until his luck ran out, and his Sabre was left adrift in the Cortez system until his rescue by the Armed Forces. Though fortunate that his saviors were forgiving of his origins and thankful for his service against the Roi, he was left without meaning. Before him was a House united and men with purpose, and his tenure with the 72nd had been an act of absconsion from his heritage, not a service to Malta.
Though unsure of what remained for him at home, he made his way back to to the Omicrons, dodging Royalist and Crayter patrols on his journey to Cali, where he met Sophia Rojo, a drifter and kindred spirit who was servicing Cali's fighters and freighters by 'day' and moonlighting as bartender by 'night'. The two grew close as he was forced to remain for a week, his wounded fighter unable to make the journey without further repairs which she performed with skill. During his time at Cali he learned of the Amalfi Directorate, and vowed to seek them out to redeem the second chance he had been given in full.
Upon his departure, he handed the last of his savings to Sophia - enough for her to buy herself a fighter of her own, and a future as more than just a technician, as he finally made his way home.
