You bring up many interesting forms, and none of them are necessarily inexpensive. A system-wide network is a colossal ordeal, but a smaller network over key areas would not be a bad idea. As for defense platforms, stand-alone pylons are always the best bet, however, it's difficult to make them with the defensive power necessary to fully deter an incoming vessel. You would need power supplies on them capable of powering weapons as large as some battleship weapons, which also isn't cheap. As for the barrier, I've got a bit of an imagination for that, however, I haven't a clue how we can pull it off. If you would send a crew to take some time to research the Nomad lair nearest the Elgin, and see what they can find on the defense grid, that would be preferable. Meanwhile, I'll try to get what information I can about certain Nomad cities that still exist. I have an asset currently being produced that will likely make gathering information much easier, however, it is taking most of my time, and isn't complete. I'll see what I can do.
