Yann:

I deserve your hostility. If I had known what was going to happen when I was called into action yesterday, I would not have participated. I wasn't asking about Marshall for intelligence reasons. I was asking because I care. So many people have died over this fight, so many lives lost...and I regret it. I regret every single life lost on both sides of this war. I came out here as a pilot knowing I would have to kill, but I never expected to be responsible for a massacre. And I never, ever intended on killing a civilian.

Yesterday, watching that detonation, I saw it as clear as day. Except, in my nightmares, that detonation was against my own home. My own family. In seeing that blast yesterday, I saw the deaths of my family, and my friends, and everyone I have ever cared about since childhood. That is the effect that yesterday has had on me.

I realize you may not believe me, and I get that. I am not some puppet without a mind of his own, Yann. I'm discouraged to hear that you never really thought peace was a possibility. I feel lied to, and that you were dishonest with me. I suppose I should have expected that too. Whether you have faith in me or not, peace is my ultimate goal. We were allies once, fighting against our respective houses - albeit for different reasons. We should be supporting each other, supporting Bering as a sanctuary for all oppressed by the Houses and the corporations. We could do that, together, if we could get past this bickering.

Yesterday, the Admiral responsible for the NEMP attack told me that blackening my soul was inevitable, and that it would be necessary to win this war. I disagree. There has to be another way, and it is on people like you and I to find it, if our leaders cannot. I refuse to allow that to happen, Yann, because when I go home to Munich, I need to be able to face my parents and my brother, and those I care about, and still be able to claim some shred of humanity. If events like what happened yesterday continue, then all will be lost, and we are no better than the Nomads who would simply destroy us all - if we don't destroy each other first.

Please, I beg you...consider what I have to say. Peace can be an option, somehow. The Lane Hackers want the Union to have new leadership. I don't know what Harmony wants, or what it would take to end this...but give me some direction. Tell me what I can do, what we can do, to end this. Further escalation will only kill more people. Are you really so willing to continue to watch lives end over this?
