Well, even if they were only fighters, seems to me that if you build a fleet simply to have a dude somewhere closeby, that would lend itself to metagaming thinly veiled as weak RP.
personally, if I were to attempt to truly RP so many characters, the quality of my RP would be spread so thin that it would suffer as a whole.
I would for pragmatic reasons eventually be forced to trim the fat & learn how to pick my battles.
