A variation of this OORP behavior is NPC farming during combat. This occurs when one player runs out of bats/bots and starts killing NPCs (both friendly and enemy NPCs) in order to harvest the bats/bots they carry.
All this behavior does is prolong the fight (like shield running ... which is why that rule came about).
I believe the RP validity of farming NPCs has been discussed before. While I don't remember the exact arguments put forth, but the majority of the community agreed that it was a valid tactic.

^This indeed is pvp abuse. If you see this happening, nab as many screenshots as you can, and throw it in the rule violations report subforum for reengaging. Passing bats/bots to someone who is engaged with a player is considered entering the engagement.. and therefore, making them exempt from trader immunity.
