What was the strategy exactly?
We used 4 separate strategies. The first was dispersion interference (sending small teams of fighters to individually attack bombers to discourage their runs all over the engagement zone at once) - this worked to an extent, but didn't overcome suicide bombing. It worked initially till people started making proper use of the respawns.
The next strategy was sending CDs right into the middle after deshielding bombers camping near the cruisers so their own novas blew them up - but that only restocked them.
The next strategy was trying to CD individual novas, but a mixture of tracking and field bugs and selection issues made that mega-inneficient. We also tried CDing bombers just as the novas left, but it was too situational.
The final and best strategy was getting a team of people with heavy CMs to drop a field of heavy CMs directly around the cruiser several seconds before incoming salvos to throw torpedoes off, combined with dispersion CDing of bombers from the front, not the rear. To avoid scorcher camping, we'd let torps in whenever somebody was loitering right next to the ship so they evaporated. We also had a team of fighters deshielding particularly annoying bombers.
This last strategy worked really well. It went from 80%+ of torps hitting to about 40%. It saved the second cruiser. If their were three cruisers, it would have saved the game.
