I don't log out in space, either, but my game crashes constantly, and it really sucks to be unable to start it right back up and go in.
I'm not suggesting making their ship disappear instantly. It should still stay in space for 90 seconds, so that they can still be destroyed, but they should be able to log back in and re-enter their ship (But not log into any other ship for 90 seconds).
