"Elitism is the belief or attitude that those individuals who are considered members of the elite a select group of people with outstanding personal abilities, intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight or those who view their own views as so; whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern. Alternatively, the term elitism may be used to describe a situation in which power is concentrated in the hands of the elite."
Anyhoozle, back to part of Ivan's response:
Now what cripples rp? Elitism, or people thinking they're "smarter" than rest of "stupid sheep" that try to roleplay and do it by the rules
Your definition of elitism actually fits anyone with a "better than thou" attitude, be that person an indie or player faction member.
Now to the question of what factors ruin the rp experience for players. Here are some answers for your perusal, in no particular order:
a) players who don't bother to acquaint themselves with the rules before they jump into the game.
b) players with a weak grasp of English.
c) players, who take pride in dictating another player's rp. And have the gall to say it's for the good of the community.
d) players who have a predjudice against new players and new ideas for doing things.
e) players who put rp before sportmanship.
f) impatient and somewhat selfish veterans who don't really feel compelled to help new players out. Less noobies plugging up the bandwith, more slots for good rpers like us.
g) ships and equipment so exhorbitantly priced, it will take you eons to trade for the funds to rp the character you really want to.
What can we do as individuals and as a community to enhance the gaming experience for the people that play here? Maybe some of the changes needed start with us as individuals.
