Guten abend! Der Kriegsherald's top story tonight: Breaking News from the Bundestag! Bundestag introduces sweeping new measures in response to an empassioned request by the leader of our great Rheinwehr: Admiral Franz Bäke. Our political correspondent Klara Thiesler is on scene, and we take you now straight to the heart of the story, unfolding on New Berlin.

We're here outside the Bundestag buildings, where Ministers and Representatives have been locked in a fourteen hour debate - a debate that some inside observers are are saying may go well into the night, even into tomorrow. According to reports, the topic of discussion was Admiral Bäke's proposed sweeping reforms aimed at revitalising the Rheinwehr and putting Rheinland on the right footing for decades to come.

Although few representatives have been available for comment, we were able to briefly catch up with Representative Ebhard Schrotter, who had this to say: "Ja, now of course it seems all very dramatic, I'm sure... *small chuckle* But really its all very boring, I'm afraid. You see... with an initiative like this, there are a great many specifics that need to be considered, whether that be budgetary adjustments, or simply a matter of implementing the proposal in a clear, concise and consistent way that will deliver the desired outcome in a way that is both effective and fair to the Rheinic people."

Given the clear and present need for the Admiral's proposals, however, the measure has gathered clear partisan support even across traditional party lines. As with any democratic measure, there have been some dissenting voices - notably Representative Paulus Übler, a member of the minor Freistaat party, who tendered this resignation yesterday, saying that "No militarised state can ultimately be truly democratic! Under any government an overgrown military establishment is inauspicious to liberty, but I say: No! I will not be a part of of a house that would rather fight its enemies than talk to them." He reportedly stormed out of the Bundestag to jeers of 'Gut so' and 'Good riddance'. Given Herr Übler's well known Kusarian connections, kusarian wife and his alleged ties to national syndicalist terrorists, the hollow announcement comes as no surprise to anyone, I'm sure.

Meanwhile, others have been more concilliatory. In particular, the aging Representative Peter Jähn, as a long-serving veteran of the Liberty and Nomad Wars has been traditionally resistant to military measures during his career in the Bundestag - and even warned at the outbreak of the war that "the Sigmas are where empires go to die", and instead advocated "a war fought with the pen, not the lives of Rheinland's youth." Nonetheless, in a statement released yesterday evening via the Neural Net showed measured support for the proposal, saying that "I have stood against this war, I have long spoken out against the death and the killing; but if we must fight a war then at least our Jungs should have the tools they need to win it."

Although many of the exact specifics of how the plan will be implemented remain classified, the Admiral's speech last week gave us some clear indiciations; with our government hard at work implementing these much needed changes, we are sure to begin seeing the results soon! Der Kriegsherald contacted the Bundestag Public Relations Office, and received a response from Emma Lehmann, Bundestag Spokesperson for Military Affairs. For the full details on Admiral Bäke's speech, stay tuned - that's up next tonight on Der Kriegsherald!

Guten Abend sehr geehrter Herr,
Das Bundesmilitäramt thanks you for your patriotic interest regarding Regierungsvorschreibung L.XMR76-1087; proposal for integrated militär-solutions for the year 826. The plan will revitalise Rheinland both militarily and economically, providing a firm foundation upon which the Militär can build its defense of our great nation.

The Rheinwehr will be better able to carry out its task, and is pleased to see such wide support for these measures, not just in the Bundestag but also amongst the people we fight for. We have pledged to implementing the reforms in the most efficient manner, and promise to ensure minimum disruption to the populace during the transition.

Due to the nature of the ordenance, there are naturally details that cannot be revealed to the public for reasons of State security. A public announcement of key details is scheduled to be made in the near future, and I can therefore confirm to you the key features of the new directives to be implemented:

In addition to key economic measures that will reinforce Rheinlands ability to undertake and supply further military efforts, the acts will provide the Rheinwehr Militär with the necessary tools and powers they need to effectively fulfil their duty to Rheinland, while additional resources will be made available to modernize, upgrade and expand on our military equipment. The Rheinwehr is currently undertaking the appropriate studies which will permit the smooth integration of the Rheinland Bundespolizei, in supported of a planned expansion of both the fleet and the Rheinheer Landstreitkräfte.

To answer your personal query: I am sorry but we are unable to provide you with an answer, as the Rheinwehr does not keep up-to-date records of the whereabouts of animals kept as pets by our civilian contractors, although ownership of the named animal would be in violation of Rheinland legal codes, and should therefore be reported if found.

Signed, Hpt. Emma Lehmann,
Rheinwehr Pressedienstoffizier, Bundesmilitäramt,
Bundesburogebäude 19 am Regierungsplatz, Neu Berlin.

As you may have heard about the rumour-mill, Kameraden, a few days ago, Fleet Admiral Franz Bäke made a speech outlying his plan for the future of Rheinland's war efforts; a handfast strategy to bring yet more victories to the storied history of Rheinland. Without further ado we take you now to the Admiral, but remember to join our in-depth discussion and analysis with Herr Doctor Ulrich Lommer on Der Kriegsherald Extra!

In a small room from deep within the Bundestag building, Fleet Admiral Franz Bake was preparing to take his place on the podium to present the case to the Bundestag.

“Frauleins and Gentlemens, Thank you for this opportunity to present the situation from Military perspective.

I know you are used with good news but now I want to present you the truth. The truth is that we are facing too many conflicts without the necessary manpower. But I want first to present the kampfgruppe situations.

We had occupied the space around Saigon with less losses than expected but there are reports from within the Oberkommando that Battleship Hyono and a Gas Miner Battleship have been deployed in the area. I had ordered to reinforce Kampfgruppe Bayern with elements from Dresden Fleet, and after the withdrawal of Kampfgruppe Altenburg from Dresden, it has been sent to Omega 7 to assist die Polizei in securing the system and increase the Rheinland Corporation presence there.

On the same note, Kampfgruppe Strausberg has been ordered to Cologne system to secure the system against any possible criminal incursions. Kampfgruppe Westfalen und Karlsruhe are having the same standing orders as from the end of Liberty-Rheinland War, to protect and secure Rheinland interests in the Systems of Hamburg and Stuttgart. The other Kampfgruppen has been orderd by Oberkommand to enter the mandatory maintenance time and to be on stand by to participate on our Fronts. “

*He stopped and coughed to prepare his voice. With a press of his button, the Sigma-21 system appears on a screen behind him*

“About Sigma Front: As you all know Sigma-15 is our main way of reinforcing the ships around Saigon but we learned from Gallia that stretched supply lines are a vulnerable thing. Thus, it came into consideration the need for additional ships and pilots to give to Sigma-15 and Sigma-13 the features of a defensible line. But for that I have to ask the following. “

“Sirs, we are in times of need. We are fighting the Kusarians in the north and the Hessians in the south. Internally we are fighting against various criminal elements. With all due respect to Polizei, they are outgunned by the heavy ships of the pirates.

Thus I propose the following:
First, the Rheinland Military to have the ability to request to civilian corporations to assist in construction of new ships or new equipment, requesting to civilian shipyards to convert partially its capacity to military ships production. In short, to move to a war economy until we can build sufficient additional forces.

Second, Rheinland Military is in dire need of Pilots and Ship Specialists. While training a new pilot can take months or years, I propose that any RFP pilot that is with more then 4 years of flying under his or her belt to be moved to Military. They will get additional training and will be able to fly heavier ships and assist in our goal. On other hand, Trainees from Militär will serve at first with the Polizei, to acquire some combat experience before being sent to front lines.

Thirdly, Rheinland Federal Polizei to be militarised. They will receive new and heavier ship types along with the new gear. Their Pilots will be trained by Rheinland Military Instructors, being trained in military combat and fleet tatics. The Idea is for Polizei to be able to deal with Pirates on their own due to this changes, thus allowing the Military to send additional forces to frontlines.

Fourth, Militär would require additional financial means to raise around 500.000 Ground Soldiers to increase the Ground Forces presence. Weapons and heavy machines are needed, such as hover tanks and even normal speeders.

Thank you for your time.

*Bäke bows and stands ready to accept any questions from the board.*

Lebenslauf eines Helden

With the recent retirement of Kontraadmiral Falke Schneider, Der Kriegsherald looks back over the career of a true Hero of Rheinland. Like many of Rheinland's greatest heroes, Falke Schneider's career has a humble beginning; assigned as a Flieger to Fliegerschwadron 121 of Kampfgruppe Dresden, he soon cut his teeth flying fighter-defensive missions in the the fierce fighting against our old foe. Noted for his skills, he was soon promoted, and assigned to the Hamburg Defense Fleet. Although garrison duty bought the young pilot few opportunities to shine, he furthered his studies and skills in this time, like many others under the watchful eye of their Kommandant.

It was the outbreak of war with Liberty that would catapult Herr Schneider to the forefront once again. Called for active service as part of the Bering Offensive, he distinguished himself in the early phases of the campaign, notably for the actions of his squadron in actions around Planet Hudson. His actions bought him a transfer to the 211 Special Warfare Squadron, assigned to special tasks and critical missions in Libertonian space. It was as part of this unit that he would witness the grim day that the Militaer retreated from Bering, and he was amongst the last to pass through the Jumpgate before it was sealed.

For his outstanding bravery and his demonstrated leadership abilities, he was appointed Hauptman and sent to complete his command training at the Offiziersakademie. Following his graduation, he was selected for his tactical command abilities, and assigned to the Oberkommando. During his time with the high command, he would again and again show his skills in battle, and cool under pressure.

In time he would reach the lofty-rank of Konteradmiral der Rheinwehr, the duties of which he would serve admirably and competently for some years. No doubt weary, and having well earned his retirement with long and meritorious service, Kontraadmiral Falke Schneider retired earlier this month to his home estates. As with all retiring command officers, he is appointed Hauptmann der Reserveflotte, and will no doubt fight along side us again should Rheinland call! In the meantime, we all wish him peace and happiness in his retirement.
