If you find that playing the game is a grind or a chore then go do something else.

Mechanics within games should ultimately fun; you play games to have fun right? If they're not fun, then it's not really a game is it? For factions that have or don't need support, grinding activity is just second nature and comes easily. For others, it's a monotonous task that takes precedence over being able to enjoy their experience.

You can enjoy experience while being unofficial. People take being official faction too seriously.
