Following our little escapade yesterday to Delta to make new friends, I launched another test flight to put the recently installed reactive and refraction armor plating through its paces, along with the new weapon systems we've installed. The modifications held up quite well, exceeding expectations with insurmountable odds. We had hoped to put it up against a small contingent of Core or Order vessels, however upon finding one it had already been set upon by the Vagrants and Commune. Noting our understanding, I left The Core to the Vagrant and worked to eradicate the cultist warships.
It was touch and go at first. The Achlys is in no way mobile enough to combat a Destroyer pair conducting hit and run maneuvers, but the overwhelming firepower of our forward cannons proved more than a match for the hull of an RM-2A as we successfully landed a volley of 240mm HEAP rounds on an unshielded target. They received some unexpected support, in the form of an Outcast Dreadnought, which had uncloaked and attempted to overpower the Achlys in close quarters. They soon realized their mistake, when we turned to face them and began to outgun them. It didn't take too long before the Maltese Dreadnought was up in flames, and the final Destroyer suffered the same fate as the first.
All in all, the Achlys in spite of power system struggles is exceeding expectations. Recommending that we re-visit the reactor problem in the near future in order to mitigate further drain on our systems. There's no telling what could happen in the event our reactor fails in open space - or Eirene forbid a combat situation. We've returned to Covenant Space to address the damage reports.
