New London Blitz brought everyone to the frontlines, myself included. Command de la Marine dispatched Triumph destroyers to New London. The goal was to break through the Bretonian defenses and win the war with one final push. Escadron XXII dispatched all fighters and bombers it could muster to assist. Even I was reassigned from the Core Worlds to Leeds again.
I was ordered to New London, together with Commandant Emeline Coste, escorted by Gris and Rouge wings. We arrived to the planet in the middle of a huge battle. There were fighters of the First Fleet de la Marine, Royal Guard, and many others. We engaged Bretonian vessels alongside them to clear a path for our reinforcements. I can't say that we turned the tide, but we did our part. As more reinforcements from la Marine arrived, we were able to push through. At a great cost though: many capital vessels were destroyed on both sides.
Our wings joined many others stationed aboard Battleship Dax. Once the Triumphs arrived, all Gallic forces were sent to escort them to the low orbit of New London. The goal was simple: have the destroyers take out the infrastructure critical for Bretonia and force their capitulation. However, the Bretonians wouldn't sit idly and watch. Battleship MacDuff sent all the fighters and bombers it could muster in an attempt to stop us.
What happened next is hard to describe. The memories are still vivid, long after the battle. Bretonians threw everything at our destroyers, trying to thwart our plan. In turn, we threw everything at the Bretonians. Nuclear mines and antimatter torpedoes were exploding all around and didn't discriminate between friend or foe. That was the fiercest battle of the war. After a while, I even lost count how many hostiles we shot down, how many of our pilots we lost, and how long the whole battle lasted.
When I came to, the battlefield was empty. Bretonians blew up all of our destroyers in the vicinity. Our remaining fighters were suppressing pockets of Bretonian resistance, but the blitz was repelled. I don't know if the Triumphs ultimately had the time to carry out their mission. I'm sure that the Dax or other Royal Navy ships monitored the AO for that. Until we receive that data, I don't even know if it is a victory or a defeat.
All I know is we did our best. I just hope it was enough.
