It is very difficult to type out roleplay notices (engagement or not) and to stop the person who is spamming cms and trying to cruise away. There are already several features of the game that are accepted that enable this sort of behavior, setmsgs are a balancing mechanic in that sense. The people abusing this to break the rules should be punished individually rather than stripping the mechanic from the collective who are not all using it maliciously.

I feel the same way here, this is unnecessary and has no benefit. The pros of this feature far outweigh the cons and I seriously doubt disabling it will make a significant difference in the rules being broken.
Easy to learn, useful for Jump Coordinates or longer setmsgs, doesn't bypass swearfilters or anything.

Nothing is set in stone.
Don't do it. Please.
I am also rather attached to my diemsgs, they going as well? Please no.
While it is true that the oft misquoted saying is that "a few bad apples spoil the bunch", punishing the majority for the actions of... well, we know who triggered this, is not a good way to go about things. I personally do not use set messages that much - but I do have them - for pirates and lawfuls alike, traders and battle vessels - you never know when you'll need to move quickly. To put another perspective: I type fast, and I have no difficulties with english - but I am a wordy MF; typing out in depth RP is simply not always an option - nor is it desired if its the 15th repetition of "RO: Guten Tag Kollege!" Punish the rule-breakers, but please don't remove a great feature.
