Queue the arguments and counter-arguments on why faction X should or should not have a given class of ship...
Let's face it, when you have a dedicated star system, you have the resources to build a Navy. The Zoner mindset has never precluded self defense, and you defend a system with a fleet, not with snubs. I can certainly understand Zoners not being the aggressor, but to think they wouldn't defend their own homes is absurd.
If you want to completely do away with Zoners, fine, but, if they aren't going to be nothing more that the Discovery version of wandering Romany in their (other faction) ships, the notion that they wouldn't have the means to defend their assets is nonsensical.
As to Omega-49 and the invasion, it was a travesty by mandate, and it only made sense because the people in control demanded it be so.
No-one with any experience in Marine operations would have believed it because the pre-cursor for it, namely that Bretonia was in such dire military straights that it needed Liberty to save it, makes it a ridiculous notion.
Leaving aside assembling 1.8 million combat troops, there is a requirement for a minimum of 360 (presuming completely stripped down ships) 5k transports to move troops, and that doesn't include the non-combat forces, which, in most militaries, are 3 or 4 to 1. That also doesn't include vehicles, repair parts, foodstuffs, ammunition beyond the individual combat load, etc. Oh, yes, and we haven't even started with the civilian side of things.
