It being a family business she was raised to eventually take it on and became a decent chef in her own right. She had always been dissatisfied with the way Malta was ran, longing for something more just and fairer, having seen the success of the other houses in Sirius. She's a fairly level-headed sort of person but also determined when she decides she wants to do something, thus applying to the Republic in order to try and make a difference rather than languishing forever in a restaurant.
