Project Orillions Strike
Since its inception the Order has specialized in state of the art tech that pushes the boundries of what humanity has used,
their unique access and understanding of the rare and highly sought after resources of the Omicrons allowing them to develop this tech.
Unfortunately in recent years access to these resources has not been as uncontested as it once was,
ambitious Zoners, the Core and even an increase in Nomad activity have all pressed on the Orders ability
to obtain the rare materials it needs for its most advanced weaponry and technology.
In order to counter this growing issue, a team of researchers within the Orders science division
were tasked to come up with a powerful weapon that could rival the Orders conventional weapons without
relying on these materials or adapted Nomad technology.
The scientists, somewhat distraught they had to basically reinvent the wheel,
started by studying the more primitive weapons of old. Ancient archives of weapons long become obsolete with
the advent of shields and energy weapons provided little insight,
until they came across one particular design that might have promise: the gauss cannon.
By using the electromagnets inside of a series of coils to speed up an object to such extremes it was possible
for an old fashioned projectile to have enough felocity so it could inflict satisfactory damage to a vessels shields.
If it were to strike an unshield target, it would likely even be able to do significantly more damage then the Orders conventional weapons.
The first prototype was built using a combination of conventional metal alloys.
Unfortunately however it quickly turned out the velocity of the projectile while too strong,
resulting in the prototype being destroyed after a single shot.
In order to compensate for this the design was augmented with Iridium plating.
This meant that the original goal of the project; finding a suitable weapon that didn't rely on
the rare materials of the Omicron systems, was a failure.
On the plus side, the Order had a new, albeit primitive weapon that proved greatly efficient in field tests.
Due to the old design of the prototype it was deemed Orillions Strike, in honor of founder and very first leader of the Order.
While the Order is limited in its ability to produce these prototypes due to the same reliance on resources found in
the Omicrons that resulted in the project being started in the first place, the Overwatch still considers the project a success thanks
to the performance of the weapon.
