' Wrote:maybe i went a bit overboard... your arguments are solid. But it still kinda sucks....pirates dont comunicate...they attack swiftly and without question.... i think only border officials of certain factions (such as blood dragons) can demand credits, pirates take only cargo (im only stating that as a solid argument, THAT is very PR like....the fear.... the risk.... the challange!!!)
Traders passing trough chugoku without paying tax to the "officials" there are not traders, but smugglers!!
i myself always pay tax if I'm asked to cause it really pays up... the people taking my money are not interested in RP but they behave acordingly. Just ask yourself: if i go trough the border USA-Mexico and the mexicans ask you to pay tax. Will you argue with them? Try to get a lower price? (you can always try and bribe them but you risk being put into prison) No important conversations...maybe you dont even understand mexican language and just get a translated paper bill.
As I said before ... please don't lump all of us Pirate ID'd folks into the same stereotype. My pirate NEVER attacks without saying something for role play. I typically spend more time in dialogue with traders than I do actually pirating them. AND ... I rarely ever have to use my guns.
Um ... no ... pirates seek loot in the form of currency or treasure. Much of the gold captured by pirates is usually in the form of currency ... you know ... the type of gold with the image of national leaders on them. Yeah ... pirates take whatever they can capture. Here's something else to consider ... what in the world would a pirate do with passengers? What about prisoners? Toxic waste? Yeah ... why the heck would a pirate go for cargo like that? Diamonds ... probably ... Niobium ... not likely.
When considering ROLE PLAY ... please take into consideration WHAT cargo the trader is carrying. A trader with passengers would not say "I'd rather die" ... cause the passengers would take over the ship and try to negotiate with the pirate. In fact, the pirate would be better off taking whatever cash and goodies the passengers brought with them. And if you have VIPs ... OH ... you should expect to pay more than just 500k. Now that's ROLE PLAY ...
' Wrote:All very good points. It's really a matter of taste. If you are going for RP purposes, it is much easier to ally yourself with an established faction, as you get the benefits of such an alliance. Running a 'vanilla' id is much more difficult because it really does limit your choices... each time you engage, your reputation will flutter and you run the risk of flashing a faction. It happens. Then you have to work twice as hard to clean that up. My character is a Blood Dragon and while pirating is a viable possibility, as mentioned before, his motivation is political... not just for the loot. Yes, it limits my ship usage, but I decided all of that when I signed up. If you want to go indi pirate... that is fine. But keep in mind your choice of ships, weapons, docking ports... all of this must be correct for your RP to be spot on. And absolutely, avail yourself of the numerous resources available to you both on this forum, in game, data cards, and others who might be in a position to give you their unbiased advice.
Well ... there are no "generic" ships available. So ... everyone with the "generic" ID's have to go with what they can get. Judging by your logic ... a trader with a Firefly should limit his trading to Bretonia (since the Firefly is only purchasable on Cambridge). The Beatle would make you Kusari ... the Mammoth would make you Liberty ... Large Train? ... probably Bretonian. Get the picture? What applies to one ... applies to all. Now grab your cake and eat it.
