They respawn within less than a minute.

I'm not sure about the bug where they stop shooting if you destroy them, but there is a bug where they have weird and bad targetting priority. It can happen that instead of shooting the nearest ship, they shoot at a ship that is farther away, or that they stop shooting some ships for unknown reasons, other than the platform being shot. I think it may somehow be linked to new ships moving in and out of their range.
