Lupas spent just under 4 months in physiotherapy, regaining the use of his body, training himself back to fitness. About a month in he’d tired of the pandering of the hospital doctors, but a mysterious benefactor had sent a trainer to help. He said he’d worked with the military, which was fine in Lupas’ book. Anything to get him back to fighting fitness was what he needed. He needed to be pushed to his limits, no less was expected of him and his fellow Judges...

Lupas still hadn’t heard from them.

Months he’d been in that coma. Another 4 (almost) spent in therapy. Not a single word

But that’s wasn’t like them. Was it possible that they could actually be.. gone?

He didn’t have time to be sentimental. That’s what got you killed. When it came down to the wire, you had to stay alert.

He realised that very quickly when he took a right hook on his jaw.

Thats enough for today son.

No. Keep going.

The trainer, as good as he was, wasn’t a Judge. He didn’t understand that for him there was no giving in. He had to keep pushing, keep improving. He has to be better because that’s what was expected, by him and others.

The trainer was already taking off his gloves, a clear sign that he was done for the day. Lupas had learned this in earlier sessions.

He stepped over to his small pile of belongings, grabbing a towel to wipe the sweat from his face. As he redressed himself in his uniform, Lupas found himself reflecting on what needed to be done, what had occurred, and where he would need to go next.

Finally, he grabbed the badge. He looked at it for a moment before placing it in a pocket. It had been given to him when he passed the Academy, transitioning from Cadet to Judge.

It was time to make some calls.
