I feel a bunch of people are missing the big picture in this. It should be all about the roleplay aspect of the entire deal.
Lately I have seen so many cap ships flying around I almost thought there was a ban on fighters & bombers.
Seems everyone & their mother has a cap ship. Just in the last 7 days I noticed 3 or 4 Red Hessian cruisers floating in front of Malta. (not picking at anyone, just stating a point) How did they get these cruisers? I never seen one mention of a request in the RHA message dumps, with exception to one I posted & I received a good played out answer stating "the largest ship we produce is a cruiser and we are very protective of said ships. Very few of them exist and are prized by our military." I accepted that answer because it was well written & fit well into a roleplay scenario. Thus We dont have a single Red Hessian Cruiser in the fleet. yet there is a few floating around in Alpha system on a daily basis.
Here in starts the confusion, If these outcasts or allies have said cruiser, how they get it? wasn't anything posted I could find granting them one. So to follow a role play I would have to ask my ally the RHA if said ship was known to exsist. If not, is it stolen? do I help my ally by shooting it out of the sky? or do I pretend it's a ghost ship? Same could & should be said for any factions ships including the RM-1 OC destroyer or the OC Dread.
There's allready enough cap whoreing going on as is, setting limitations to who can buy a cap ship & why is not a bad idea. But the limitations & guide lines for said purchase should be done in a role play manner, not just
"Im registering my destroyer so I can kill corsairs!" That person took no effort at all in even trying to make a valid story line in role play. & In my opinion should have been denied.
Same should go for the Independents as well as the factions.
We seen 2 in the last couple weeks who bought a destroyer & a dread. Both openly stated in a system channel there soul intention was to go get revenge on the LSF & LSN with them. (Like Manhattan aint the capwhore capitol of the galaxy allready) There was no roleplay hinted at all, they just was mad & seeking revenge cause they got owned an earlier day.
So I guess I have to agree with Epp to a point. limiting capitol ships is probably gonna help the game later down the line, Were I disagree is with some of the guidelines.
1. 3 pages of RP to obtain one is a little much, sure it can be done but why so exsessive? a simple well wrote out page and a half with a story line that has a plot should do.
2. Having a valid reason for needing such a ship. 1 line comments like "I want to kill corsairs" shouldnt cut it
3. Fee's, I can see where it may help detour a few, but if they have the 750+ mill to buy it, a 100 mil more wont make a big difference so why impose it? make them role play it out.
I would also suggest making a type of contract for independents buying a cap ship. Post it on forums stating
'So & so faction is not responsible for the actions of said ship & is not affiliated with it. Ship was sold to an independent pilot & is their soul responsibility what they do with it' This would cover a factions RP in just about any system.
