Smuggling Is Not Unlawful

I thought no because if contraband is illegal, and the item in your cargo is contraband, you are doing an illegal act called smuggling.

I always assumed that contraband transportation by lawful ID's is okay if it has the role play to back it up, to give an example:

If an Ageira character has a story background of making money on the side by transporting tech to the Outcasts and coming back to Liberty with cardamine

Or if a Bowex transport was attacked by a pirate transport that happened to be carrying slaves, and the Bowex transport won the fight and dumped it's cargo to rescue the slaves and get them aboard

My thoughts exactly. There is RP involved which, I would hope, the lawful trader would alert local lawfuls prior to proceeding.

Whether or not they do "the right thing" is something the character in question needs to decide upon. What matters for the rest of us is the RP behind the unlawful action committed by the lawful ID, this is because we have a rule that says all characters must play according to their ID, which implies that a lawful ID'ed trader can't smuggle for the sake of smuggling as that would be a breach of the rule. But if there is an role play involved behind the action of smuggling, then it should be okay.
