What isn't canon in disco, but does exist, are jumpdrives and some other things, so 1% of the actual added content.

The implication you're giving is that this event is a pure conn-esque pvp event with no rp to support it, two comms so far already invalidated your point. It doesn't have to have an impact on a storyline heavily for it to be viable, if it generates enough material for people to put multiple rp posts about it then it's good enough. Whether this has any future implications on any storyline arc is up to story dev and the OFLs of the reigonal factions.
