When she spoke, he listened. His cup steaming with a fresh refill, he enjoyed listening to someone who knew what they wanted. It wasn't just almost losing her life that cemented what she wanted, she already did before that. Still, she had her own recovery to make. Her arm, her eye, the other wounds she had and regaining her strength were all things she had to work. He just reminded her of it.

"You do realize that if you end up working here, I go from being your doctor to your boss," he joked. "I mean, I will not be your direct supervisor but since I run the whole thing...." He stopped with a smile and sipped his coffee.
"But for now, as your doctor, you need to worry about you. While you spend the next few weeks in recovery, the paperwork will begin. It takes time so it is perfect."

His face grew long, knowing the next subject would be a bit painful. "Now, to avoid any unfortunate legal problems...." He paused a moment with a sigh, ".....your ex.......monster, husband, whatever you wish to call him, if he is dead then I do not need authorities coming here with warrants for you or if he is alive, perhaps you need divorce proceedings? Either way, it is something we must deal with as part of your training takes place in house space."

It brought a moment of reflection of his own failed marriage. He knew that had he allowed her the chance of another child, it wouldn't have ended. He missed Midori but knew he was right to try and stop her from having more children. All he could do was reflect on what was a good marriage for him.
