I think the RAM is a possibility, but it's odd how the problem just appeared out of the blue. One gigabyte is certainly enough if it's available to the system processes, but not if on-board video is taking a quarter of it.

Actually, take a look in the BIOS options to see how much memory is being allocated to the graphics, try lower settings to see if it helps. I have a feeling you might be running it at 256mb, which is quite a lot for on-board, if so try setting it to 128mb. Despite the lower amount of memory available to the graphics, performance should in fact increase considerably.
