The air was filled with dust and sand, painting the sky an eerie, bloody red. The village before her flickered in the dancing light of the fires that engulfed the squat buildings. Voices cried out in the smoke and ash; calls for help, calls for mercy, screams of agony. Olivia stood in the village square, watching as the Colors rounded up the inhabitants and torched their homes. Bodies littered the streets, grotesquely twisted from the impacts and explosions that had taken their lives.

Somewhere, a child screamed, only to be cut off by a burst of gunfire.

Why were they doing this? How could they?

Olivia found herself standing before a small house. Kneeling before her in the dirt was a man, holding onto his wife and daughter, staring up at her with bloodshot, pleading eyes.

"Please," he begged. "Please let us live!"

Olivia raised her handcannon and aimed it squarely at the man's chest. Fear and panic twisted his face.

"I'm sorry," the mercenary muttered and pulled the trigger. The gunshot rang out into the red sky, echoing across the landscape like a tremendous thunderstroke. With each reverberation, it sounded more and more like a deep, satisfied laugh, the cackling of the man who had sent them here. It grew louder and louder, drowning out the cries, the gunfire, the crackling inferno that engulfed the village.

Olivia glanced around. The streets were now flooded with corpses - thousands, tens of thousands.

"I'm sorry," she repeated. "I'm so sorry."

The walls of the dead rose higher and higher around her, becoming mountains of twisted carcasses.

"I'm so sorry!"

Then, they collapsed over her, burying her beneath their weight.
