CHAPTER TWO: THE CIRCULAR PROBLEM

Within one of the research and development suites, a team is huddled together around a giant display. Most of the information is displayed in green with a handful of labels showing in red. Albert, alongside another head researcher, examines the passages in red.

"We have to do better than this. Once we figure this out, I can report back to Leon and get his final go ahead."

"What's his problem anyway?"

"He wishes to not have this project backfire and harm this station."

"Can't say I blame him. Did you mention Galileo?"

"I did. He agrees to that, but he wants us to put in the work on these simulations first. So far all the errors have a common overlap, the length and stability of the jumphole."

"Could it be that we don't know enough about the stabilizer ring yet? Halpert's report wasn't exactly detailed."

"At least we have a place to start. Maybe the Technocracy have information on this. I'll re-read Halpert's report and try contact the Rheinland corporation on Weimar too."

"I would not suggest contacting that organisation. But hey, you're the boss man in this room. Your call."

"What's wrong with contacting them?"

"You're going to contact an intelligence organisation about their intelligence. Need I say more?"

"You may be right. However I need information on this ring. If they don't respond or reject my request, then we'll leave it be. The Technocracy will assist us either way."

"To be honest, I'm kind of surprised with what our results are so far. Did you see the result of the second test?"

"I believe I was sleeping during that time."

"We triggered the drive to activate, the rift formed and the drive carried itself through the wormhole and into the target system. Like all the other simulations, the rift was open for a couple of seconds. The outlier was that the drive wasn't destroyed in the process. We've only got that result once."

"Interesting. I'll have to read the logs on that one to see what occurred behind the scenes. Let's move onto test forty seven."

"Understood. Team, let's reset for a new test. Set parameters for wormhole generation to Beta-87."

"What parameter was the second test run under?"

"Epsilon-3."

"Thank you."
