Virginia rubbed her nose and closed her eyes for a moment. She had won over her short temper, but it had cost her a lot of mental strength. It was obvious from her expression, however, that Holiday's advice was not exactly falling on listening ears. Women of Virginia Belle's nature simply had a mind of their own. "A commander must always maintain a personal distance from his subordinates, Doctor.", she replied in a deeper and quieter tone than was usual for her, "Subordinates don't need a mortal man or woman over them, but an icon, an ideal, and an example of how things should be done. We are a military unit, not a family.".
She opened her eyes and blinked, her gaze briefly looking tired before she regained her inner strength and her gaze and expression sharpened, "But it's been too much for me lately, that's true. I don't normally have these problems, but...", she sighed briefly and finished the baileys from her glass, "... but now I have about three times as much to deal with as before. Worrying about the crew, paperwork with the crew, gathering materials and supplies, crew conflicts and suicides... basically doing what three different departments used to do before.".
