CAPTAINS LOG - Entry #15: Downtime

It feels good to be back on the Torment, shore leave was fine but due to material shortages we ended up having to wait significantly longer than normally would have been necessary. Some of the crew has been temporarily reassigned to other vessels, with the personnel shortage the Insurgency is currently facing it made little sense to keep competent staff idle. Unfortunately for me that means I now find myself shorthanded on crew, what little new staff that was assigned to the Torment is wet behind the ears and will need thorough drilling before they can pull their weight. Still, I'm confident that the experienced crew members that remain will be able to show the greenhorns the ropes.

The rumors I had received turned out to be true; the Insurgency has been losing head on skirmishes with the corrupt forces of Liberty. This is in no small part due to the the state of the fleet after the Legion rescued the Separatists in Bering. The repairs had taken far too long and due to the significant loss of life staffing and fielding what assets the Insurgency had was a challenge to say the least. Add in the arguing over tactics and strategies between the former Hellfire personnel and the former Separatists once the initial wave of gratitude of saving their asses in Bering faded, and we created a nice little powder keg for ourselves.

While our performance in Texas has provided the Insurgency with some degree of new recruits, this hasn't come close to offsetting the losses taken. The Admirals are aware something must be done and assured me they have something up their sleeve. For now though however, they need the Torment in Kansas. With the losses in Magellan and Texas, it is becoming more and more apparent that Liberty is trying to tighten a noose around our necks. As such it is imperative the Insurgency maintains a strong presence in the Kansas system; the system Liberty is most likely to advance from should they be so foolish as to try and take the fight to us.

Such an ironic twist of fate, to return to Kansas like this, the system where I first became the captain of the Torment.
We'll be deployed next week and take position near Wichita, a mostly aquatic planet or so I'm told. It should provide us with ample space to hide in ambush.
