The intelligence we were provided with by the Liberty Security Force regarding a possible invasion by the Insurgency on Liberty's rear guard played a very important role today. Had we not been warned, the Akhetaten could have been destroyed right now, or even worse, captured by the Insurgency.
On to the events themselves; during a regular patrol around the system and in the checkpoints between Planet Mojave and Planet California Minor the Akhetaten and her escorts were intercepted by an Insurgency squadron. We immediately contacted the reinforcements that were stationed at Planet Los Angeles, our distress call being swiftly responded to. The Insurgency however did not arrive unprepared; upon disrupting our lane and almost at perfect timing with our forces arriving, a much larger Insurgency battlegroup emerged from within the Whitney Ice Field.
With an Osiris, an Arbiter, an Overlord and numerous battlecruisers and cruisers shooting at us, our chances of survival were worryingly low. We begun maneuvering towards the Cataclysm, leading battleship of our reinforcing battlegroup, seeking cover from the enemy firepower. We managed to reach the Overlord's position, sustaining considerable damage in the process. During the engagement, the Insurgency assets were deadlocked into taking down the Akhetaten, with all of their forces focusing their firepower on us while our own fleet was doing it's best at distracting them and hitting them from their flanks.
After a rough fight, the last of the Insurgency's forces were wiped out, but the cost of 'winning' that showdown was far from insignificant to the Akhetaten. With multiple hull breaches and fires across the majority of our decks, a non-functional cruise drive, damaged navigation systems and various engine failures, we barely made it back to Norfolk in one peace. Human casualties as of this point are estimated to be within the dozens, with the engineering crew paying the largest death-toll. Recorded injuries are in the hundreds with bridge officers, senior officers and CIC personnel all included in the list.
The damage that was inflicted to the Akhetaten is severe and it will take us a considerable amount of time to recover from such a blow.
