By having exclusive items, you put value on it, and it gives a sense of personal touch for people to have stuff they like. The moment you make it essentially a clone - well, not as interesting. Nothing wrong with a little pride for helping out.
You are correct, it is less interesting, but they still get to have a unique entry. The upside is that everyone else gets to have the bootleg version. If it's just an effect (like an engine, thruster, or a weapon that has the same stats as something that already exists), then sure, that can be exclusive. My main gripe with exclusivity is when there's a cool new thing that offers something new on the gameplay side of things but it's only available to one person. There's only so many things we can do to spice things up and limiting that further through exclusivity is something I'll never be able to get behind.

Special skins, special effects etc.
But guns well, not a big Fan of it, even when they get special stats.
Agreed with the quoted posts, unique content for contributors, or any form of large credit donations can keep them interested in making content.
Unique content that doesn't impact gameplay in any way is perfectly fine, the problem arises when said content are dead content, as Pillow described it.
Such equipment, ships, etc. should have aesthetic changes only, stat changes that offer different ways to play game only for a special few is really something that Discovery Freelancer should avoid.
