¬ Overview
Pre-826
Soon after settlement, Bretonia needed raw materials, and Leeds was quickly recognized as the most resource rich system under Bretonian control. Companies were formed and given royal charters -- near carte blanche -- to develop the system in any way they saw fit, while settlers were handed generous incentives to move to Leeds and serve as the workforce. Over the centuries, however, unchecked industrial progress has led to significant environmental pollution as exemplified by the omnipresent smog clouds. Bretonia Mining and Manufacturing (BMM) operates the bulk of the planetside mining, smelting, and manufacturing facilities, while Bowex handles transportation of finished goods throughout Bretonia.
Post-826
The ruins of Planet Leeds, once an ecumenopolis of industrial plants, smelters, and residential blocks tightly sealed against the toxic smog. Leeds was exploited, polluted, and eventually reached an unsustainable population during the 726 years it was held by Bretonia. The planet's population fell to under 6 billion as people fled before landfall of the Gallic invaders in 821 AS and to zero following the "Glassing of Leeds", a method of planetary devastation and cracking.
The Planet now suffers earthquakes and volcanic eruptions as it comes to terms with the damage to its topography. Electrical storms ravage the planet, and clouds of soot generated by the bombardment has created a veil so thick the light of the Leeds star fails to penetrate. Though the planet is cooling while under clouds, as those clear, It is expected the temperatures to climb due to greenhouse effects, and the average temperature is projected to rise by at least 25 degrees Celsius.
¬ Ecological State
Barren ruin. Colonization is unsuitable to human life. All forms of natural stability destroyed.
