EDIT: Already got calmer while I was writing. Yay.
Okay, listen. The LPI are working to be more corrupt and less shooty, the LSF have dredged their faction from the pits of hell into a fairly decent faction that actually does its job and doesn't always just go "pew pew" (for one thing, their largest ships are now gunboats), the LN are working to reform their behavior as well. A lot of the bad indies have been whacked for doing stupid stuff like re-engaging and civilian killing, but most of the good ones are still around. Thank you Liberator America, for being a good example. They're getting better, but if a member does something dumb and doesn't realize it, then how much good does whining do? Tell the leader of the faction and they'll do something about it. People get kicked out of factions for lolzoring and get severely reprimanded for unsportsmanlike behavior- like treating the power-trading smugglers just like the actually smuggling smugglers, or never ever saying a word while fencing off outside evasive range.
PM the players you are unhappy with after an un-fun confrontation, ss your conversation and send the screens to the relevant faction leader. Even for indies, the faction leaders of the relevant NPC faction can find someone to talk to them.
Really, things aren't as bad as you think.
Learn the resident unlawfuls, working in groups is so much more fun. You will always get outmatched if you work alone, by fighters or caps, no matter which side you're on, get acquainted with the nearby factions and prominent indies. Really helps cut down on getting ganked, and opens up all kinds of fun RP banter while two big groups hunt for each other.
