But as with all rules it often comes down to player RP. Most pirates will shoot BHG at the spot so this distinction only comes into play on non combattant criminals.
Well, this would appear to say otherwise:
"The Bounty Hunters Guild originally began in Texas but has spread to almost every system in Sirius, providing a broad array of security-oriented services for a reasonable fee. They are frequently hired by house corporations, police, and militaries to aid in the protection of trade routes or to take on wanted criminals in search-and-destroy missions. Bounty Hunters are particularly reviled by criminals because some of them were once pirates themselves. As a result, many Hunters know of the various Jump Hole routes and employ that knowledge in their assignments."
That's taken directly from -> https://disco-freelancer.fandom.com/wiki...ters_Guild <- so unless this is NOT a reliable source of information, it would appear that, and I quote, "They are frequently hired by house corporations, police, and militaries to aid in the protection of trade routes or to take on wanted criminals in search-and-destroy missions". Which means that any Bounty Hunter that is properly RPing their character can choose to engage with any pirate or criminal faction so long as it is in line with their characters background and general attitude or stance on criminals or pirates in general.
Look, the BHG is not a 'neutral' faction. They are lawful and the NPC ships will openly attack anything that registers red on the IFF. If a player chooses to play as a 'Bad Guy' then they should be prepared to be engaged openly by anyone RPing as a 'Good Guy'! I fail to see any logic or reason in standing aside while evil-doers pass by.
