New Hope Governor Announces Presidential Candidacy
New Hope - Pecos: With the beginning of the election season off to a strong start, many had already anticipated that Joshua Ellis, the only candidate so far with considerable backing in the public eye, would simply ride his popularity to election day. This, however, does not appear to be the case, as projected support for Ellis dropped several percentage points following the announcement of candidacy by New Hope Governor Arron Stone. While Stone was not the only candidate that made their announcement yesterday, his declaration now shows that Joshua Ellis will face substantial competition during the season.
Stone, the respected Governor of the Crayter colony of New Hope on Pecos, made rather recent news following a sharp increase in projected organized crime on Pecos. While his reforms are still being implemented, New Hope's populace appears hopeful, as many in Tellus say they held much fear for the gangs that had been rising up in recent months. Stone has shown a deep interest in reforming relations with the IMG, and says that many of his goals revolve around smoothing Crayter's 'jagged foreign policy', though when asked about relations with the neighboring technocrats of Auxesia, Mr. Stone said that such avenues were off the table. Many within the populace have already started backing the New Hope Governor, some diverting from Ellis, whom some feel takes too hard a stance on Crayterian ideals. While Stone has not said much about his strongest opponent, analysts anticipate that the race for president may become considerably toxic.
Still, despite Stone's announcement, Joshua Ellis is still estimated to be a strong candidate for the presidency even in such early days. Despite ravenous foreign public outcry, Ellis appears determined to stay his course, and has planned a gathering to rally support for his campaign set to be held in his home of New Galene next Tuesday. Clark McNalen has announced similar plans, to take place at a public locale in New Thessalonica, the details and time of which he says will be revealed tomorrow afternoon.
