A New Life for the Broken Bird

Once dinner clean-up was complete and Sonja was on the porch, he had one order of business to complete. Boiling up some water, he made two mugs of hot chocolate and placed mini marshmallows in each. He grinned as he did this. Within a few minutes, he walked up to Sonja and handed her a mug.
"Promise complete," he said as he handed it over to her. "Water brings out its true flavors. I do hope Admete approves."
He then sat down and sipped his own without saying a word as he awaited her reaction.

As he savored his own, thoughts of the next day came to mind. Tomorrow was indeed a new day as did the ensuing challenges it would present. After another sip, he looked over to see how "they" were doing with a light smirk. Once he got his answer from "them," another thought crossed his mind. Still savoring the hot chocolate and marshmallow concoction, he asked something that he should have sooner.
"I forgot to ask, how is your shoulder?" I hope the rifle didn't bruise it.
