Kelly began small talk. No subject in particular but small talk. For Kelly, she had made a friend and was just trying to get to know Isabella better. "I really wouldn't worry about John being upset over a prank. I know him well and it takes a lot to get him upset."
At this point, she was interrupted as the lights dimmed over center stage. An announcer spoke from the bar.
"Ladies and gentlemen, John Holliday."
His silhouette appeared as he took a seat on the piano bench. When the lights came up, they were primarily around the stage area while the dining area stayed dim enough to hide in but light enough to dine in. He was dressed in a black and white tuxedo with tails. His hair was well groomed and he wore his glasses. He said nothing as he let his piano do the talking for him and talking it would do for the next long while.
For regulars, they knew what he played quite often so Doc had new material. He started with a medley that lasted just over ten minutes. For Doc, it wasn't a difficult piece but a warm up. As he played it, he began a gentle sway going from song to song. Having warmed up, he went into what many considered "classic Doc" as he went into some classical piano selections. Moonlight Sonata was a personal favorite of his. Again, he became one with the piece. He never noticed the waiter place a drink on the top of the piano before him. Without a thought, without a break, he went into a Chopin piece. It was a shorter piece but beautiful.
He took only a break enough to briefly say, "I know there are some kids or at least want-to-be kids who love this next song."
His fingers then went to work with Mozart. In his mind, how can have a piano concerto without Mozart.
After all the classics were played, he stood up to acknowledge those around him. He was enjoying himself. It was at this point that he noticed the Kusari looking lady near the piano. For the moment, he acknowledged her. Rikkert did well as Doc didn't pick up that it was Sonja. Still, he acknowledge the Kusari lady with a slight bow.
He then sat on his bench. "I have been working on some new material, something very different so please enjoy. I know I did putting it together. Again he wasted no time. Nothing Else Matters set a mood as it was a cover from an ancient song. Without a pause, he then continued with the same old band and Fade to Black.
For Doc, he was well warmed up and genuinely having a great time nor did he want to stop. But he needed a moment and a few sips of his drink. He again looked toward the Kusari woman. He also noticed Kelly was with her and that's when it hit him. His eyes met.......Sonja's......and he just looked. It was a few moments that seemed like an eternity.
