Because it was built in a place where it should not be built.

The base has been there for a year with RP to support why it's been there. Why does the base suddenly need destroyed?

I assume that'd be because the RHA came back around this time. Again, you can pretend that there is no justification inRP for this, and you can blatantly ignore the point where you can also just rally people to defend a base that is within the zoi of the biggest faction, and coincidentally enemy, of the sieging party, but that does not make the point any less valid.
It is perfectly justified for them to siege it inRP, if you like or dislike the way they went about it is something else entirely and does not matter as objectively theyve done what was asked of them - they played out their role.
