Career progression: Upon turning 17.5 Jack Johnson enlisted into the Liberty Marine Corps and was assigned to the LNS-FreedomSong as a mechanic for two years. After serving he was then selected from a pool of other enlisted men as to who would go into flight training. Only those with previous flight experience were in the pool, his name wasn't called. The man whose name was called gave Johnson his ticket to West Point where Johnson quickly progressed through the standard 4 years of military training at a normal pace. Being prior enlisted his rank was a Corporal before he was commissioned to be a Second Lieutenant at age 23. He has since been on numerous patrols, and even a few incursions into Rheinland with a strike expeditionary group into the Hamburg system, which was forced to withdraw.

Other notes: Jack "Bigs" Johnson received his callsign early in his Military career on his second patrol in the border system of Bering. His wing came across a Rheinwehr patrol of 2 Gunboats and 6 fighters. Johnson was the XO of his small patrol group, and voted for engaging the forces even though they were outnumbered 2 gunboats to 0 and 6 fighters to 4. His CO agreed, and they engaged. Johnson hit the fuel cell on one of the gunboats early in the fight, which caused it to collide into the other gunboat thus resulting in some "Big Frikkin' Explosions" as one of the enlisted flyers in his patrol squad stated. His callsign has been "Bigs" ever since.
