The Decision
Taking the Angel's helm after leading the crew in abandoning Commander Noah Angel was a decision that weighed heavily on my shoulders. As the First Officer, I had seen the fractures deepening within our ranks, and felt the uncertainty creeping into our once-unified purpose. The distress signal from Veracruz that signalled Delaware on a suicide course had been a turning point, an undeniable indicator that we stood at a precipice. The toll of sacrifices and the growing unrest among the crew couldn't be ignored any longer.

Guiding the Battlecruiser Angel to surrender to the Liberty Navy was a move that came with a cocktail of emotions. The decision wasn't about submission, but rather a calculated strategic shift. As I looked out onto the bridge, faces worn and weary, I knew that this was a pivotal moment. A new chapter awaited us, one fraught with uncertainties. Our situation worsened since Delaware punched through our defences and constant reinforcements kept streaming in from Liberty. Crew rotations became impossible, sleep became a luxury we could barely afford. We ran on nothing but ideology, the very essence that defined Noah—unyielding, fervent, and defiant.

Yet, the surrounding climate had shifted. The Hellfire Legion, once a beacon of moral purity, had devolved into something less pristine with the Insurgency. Noah's impassioned speeches reverberated, a reminder of our crusade's core, but our allies had begun to waver. The Separatists and Harmony brought pragmatism, an instinct for survival that didn't always align with our principles. A corrosive scepticism seeped in as Harmony's leadership, who once stood shoulder to shoulder with us, ran and defected to the Xenos at the first sign of Delaware's approach. It felt surreal—risking life alongside erstwhile foes like Outcasts and slavers, all while the inhabitants of Liberty looked on, callously indifferent. The Rogues' assaults of Legion forces before the Insurgency was formed, met with inaction of the Separatists, now seemed hauntingly prophetic. Our convictions were unshaken, yet the foundation upon which they stood was eroding.

Noah, a paragon of steadfast belief, carried a spark that illuminated our darkest moments. We revered him like a brother, clinging to his optimism and unwavering commitment to our cause. But amidst the din of war drums, a silent consensus formed—life was more valuable than a suicidal stand. The command centre and our trusted inner circle understood the unspoken decision as we prepared for the charge. The ordinary Legionnaires remained loyal, primed to sacrifice everything for Noah's vision; they just didn't know the full truth. In the tense hours before our reckless manoeuvre, we confronted the bridge, each step an agonizing testament to the depth of our conviction. As we gently guided Noah into the escape pod, his confusion and shaken demeanour pierced my heart. He was our beacon, our embodiment of sacrifice, but we chose a different path—a path of survival.
