A New Life for the Broken Bird

The cafe was a different environment in the morning. Overnight shifts were relaxing with an after work drink where most would have a glass of orange juice. The meals were the same but the drinks were not. The piano was silent in the morning resting quietly on it's stage. Doc took his usual table with Isabella and ordered a carafe full of coffee and two mugs. He then ordered his usual, an omelet with ham, cheese and onion with a side of home fries and a glass of milk. He was silent as Isabella placed her order. As the waiter walked away, a security officer approached.

"Hey, Doc," he said as he gave a polite nod to his date, "Seems the Gallics are in the system and taxing our ships. Just thought you should know."
"Thank you for the info," was his response. When the officer left, Doc shook his head in disgust and cursed. "Damnati galli." He then turned back to Isabella and gave a kind smile.

"If it means anything, I do like your new personality. It shows change and anyone who knew of your past would not recognize it. In my view, it is part of the new you so embrace it."
He sipped his coffee. "If you like the Kusari look, please, take what you want from my late wife's wardrobe."

He listened to her request on Niki. "The rejuvenator is tested for humans. I would not recommend using it on Niki but I am sure that we can figure out alternative ideas."
He thought a moment. "You know something, so Niki was left alone by Sonja. It happens with pets. Isabella just took her in an orphan as her own." He finished with a soft smile as he sipped his coffee.

Breakfast arrived and the two of them made small talk as they ate. He was enjoying his time with her and for the first time in a long time was relaxed. It was a great way to start a new day.
