We all have bad days. We don't feel like doing much, and just run a few trade runs. Sometimes there's an opening for RP and we either don't notice it it, or just can't be arsed. These are the days that a corsair pirate in california ends up sanctioned or //d. We just get tired of it all... I think we are all permitted, to have one or two bad days.
And then, some days are good. A few days ago, I set out to patrol the asteroid fields, and chase smugglers on my cop. After a few fruitless scans and hellos to the locals, I head towards the Penny jumphole, and out of it, right in front of my nose drops an outcast smuggler. Oh goodie!
I jump on top of him like a bunny on carrots, quoting liberty penal code paragraphs, demanding release of the slaves, and fining the amount required by law (4 mil). Of course this doesn't go over well (the laws are so harsh on a player, even though they make sense in character - always be ready to bargain!). The discussion starts: How are the slaves going to be delivered to safety, can the fine be lowered, etc. In the end I like to think we almost came to an accord: fine lowered to 2 million as it's a first offence and slaves to be escorted to Cali Minor. (Money back for he slaves, and just 2 mil fine. That's a nicer deal to get, from a trader's point of view. Still a bit steep, but he IS a criminal, not a trader.:)) It probably took 15 minutes, but heck, RP doesn't hurt anyone... Of course - that's when the other two transports dropped in and it all turned rather hostile for a while - and in the end we reached another agreement: I go away, or I die. I think the whole thing must have taken 20-30 minutes, and in the end there was one trader and a police ship being sent to the scrap heaps. ( I suck at combat. ) It's nice when things like this happen... I can't remember who the smuggler was, but man, I wish I had remembered to drop him some kudos in the thread...
I wish all days were like that, all the time. Though... we can't all be perfect, every day. Lack of RP is understandable - just as long as we don't take out our frustrations on other players through badly founded pvp, we'll be fine.
