Waran is also fat, its turn rate is abyssmal, so even your version of being effective against snubs is a no go.
Keep in mind that I lead a faction that has no caps, so we heavily rely on bombers to do anything vs caps at all. And currently, its not even a nerf, but a complete neutering of bombers.
While bombers may well require further tweaking (we've been buffing various things about them in virtually every hotfix and damage numbers compared to cap hulls are now basically back to where they were pre-patch), the math doesn't really check out here:
A Waran firing Scorchers on a full core will do 153155 damage dumping all of its core in a little over 4 seconds. That isn't accounting for the recharge during that time, which would account for an additional ~10,000 core, or ~36,000 damage.
The highest armor freighter in the game is the Draugr, at 95480 armor. With perfect accuracy, it'd basically go through all of its armor and nanobots (of course batteries are going to get in the way and the freighter's likely not going to let you sit still to apply all that damage perfectly either) in those 4-5 seconds. And that's the tankiest freighter in the game.
Damage is not the problem here. Bombers' ability to apply damage would be. And that's also where user error/skill kind of comes into play rather heavily.
