For an HQ, the Alamo was anything but glamorous. There were, for starters, several hundred thousand fewer bars within the Alamo than on a planet like Manhattan. But Theodor was not one to complain as long as the bar he attended had something other than Liberty Ale.

Theodor entered the bar and took a look around. Despite the surprisingly large open area, the room had only a handful of occupants, and sparing the tender, they all kept to themselves at different tables. These were people Theodor did not know. They were ex-miners, slaves, and lifters of very heavy things uncomplicated people who just wanted their jobs back not necessarily Theodors cup of tea.

Ted, come here! someone shouted.

A lone pilot in a corner had his hand up in the air. Theodor stared at him, trying to tell if the guy was attempting to bench press oxygen or if he just wanted another drink. When he turned his head to look at Theodor and motioned with his hand, Theodor took a step back, narrowed his eyes, and after a moments time decided it was acceptable to press forward.

The man smiled as Theodor approached. Awh, come on now you silly bugger, he said. Have a seat, have a seat.

Theodor took a booth more than an arms length away and looked his new companion in the eyes, still silent.

You must be Ted! Pleased to meet you. The names Landon Kramer. I know youre new around here and just wanted to give you a warm Xenos welcome!

Like most people comprising the Xenos ranks, Theodors education was severely lacking. In fact, hed barely attended grade school; he learned to read German and English not from formal lessons but rather off of counterfeit novels and comics his mother smuggled into Liberty when he was a wee young boy. Still, there was a saying he remembered from his elementary years about exclamation marks: Youve got ten of them to use throughout your whole life (ie: use them sparingly). This man this Landon Kramer clearly had never heard of it.

Ted? Theodor asked. He raised an eyebrow and glared. Youve got the wrong man, Mr Kramer. My name isnt Ted.

The Xenos pilot chuckled and removed a cigar from his pocket. They always said you were a quiet, stubborn jerk. Quite frankly, Teddy my boy, Im liking you more with every second we spend sitting here.

Theodor ground his jaw, shuffled his feet, and leaned forward, deepening his frown all the while. Listen one more time, sir: My name isnt Ted.

Apparently unable to help himself, Landon rolled back in his seat and laughed. He slapped his knee and moved his lips to speak, but then all he could do was collapse back into another amused hoot. It took him near half a minute to lower his voice.

Awh, come on now, he said. Ted! Its short for Theodor dont you know?

Theodor shook his head. You can call me Theo for short if you want. My isnt Ted.

Fine, fine. Theo it is, lad. Now come closer and let me buy you a drink.
