Nah. In a situation like that this or past patch or any patch ever you simply get cruised and piled on. Still, the people who know what they're doing could kill kiting ships, which I assume you'd know since you're one of the 'better' players.

A ship that was kiting properly was, frankly, not killable. Being cruised on was solved by having people CDing other ships which, as has been pointed out in this thread, is how most fleet fights tend to be. Basically it ended up with a subset of people that were untouchable but could still deal damage in return which is imho not healthy gameplay.
