In this case, it was a one-second decision that made perfect sense at the time, almost entirely because Doc is staff. That's all there is to it. There is no Staff Bias Shadow Cabal or Staff Anti-Bias Shadow Cabal or Staff Anti-Doc-Holliday Shadow Cabal. The majority of people have been pleasantly calm about it and simply posted their disagreements, which we all ended up agreeing with. This is just about the most minor thing someone could rupture their synapses over. It's not that deep.
I've realized that this is much bigger than just Doc.
I was curious, so I dug back and the previously most talked about topic on this thread was some issues about VR, streaming, and RP....it lasted only 15 individual posts max.
This currently debate/discussion is now well over 30 posts long.
If it was just the usual crowd like Lemon, Saronsen, and Godslayer commenting, I can understand how it would be easy to dismiss this as a small issue. And in a vacuum, if it was just Doc getting a random warning for his character name, I sincerely believe this thread and forum would not be blowing up like this.
But it's not happening in a vacuum, and you have people like Demonic, Avalanche, Semir Gerkhan, myself, and a bunch of other players I haven't even met before in the game or the forum commenting and concerned about this.
I sincerely believe that it is because effort is being put into addressing letter of the law things like silly names, instead of addressing the much deeper issues of unsportsmanlike behavior that has been popping up in the server and forum (ie. the Kansas Incident).
If a bunch of people were walking down the street and started falling in a sinkhole and severely injuring themselves, it would be expected that the city would invest resources in securing the area around the hole and filling the road so that in the future people are not hurt.
If instead the city sent several police officers to a road the next block over and started issuing tickets for jaywalking...while continuing to do nothing about the sinkhole on the previous street...it would be completely understandable if the locals started vocally protesting.
