Erie Retreat

[Doc Holliday]

The morning was cold but sunny. With an extra layer and some boots, he stepped out to view the fresh blanket of snow that glistened in the sunlight as he sipped that first morning cup of coffee. He was well rested and had a slight smile on his face. To his surprise, he would be receiving a visitor. Isabella was going to take a few days and spend Christmas with him in the quiet of the retreat so his plan for the day had a slight change. He needed to get her a gift of some kind but what to get? He was never good at that sort of thing. He would go inside for a video conference with his old friend, Gilbert.

"So, eh, what's on your mind, Doc?" he asked.
"I am not sure but..." He thought a moment. "Jewelry. A necklace. One that would look good resting against her brownish skin tone. Diamonds....perhaps with other stones."
"Careful there, John. She gets diamonds and she will think you fallen in love with her," he quipped.
Doc shrugged. "Gilbert, what if I have? I think I am just afraid to admit it. And well, it is too early."
"It's nevah to early, John," Gilbert replied. "Love has a way of finding you and when it hits ya', ya' know!!"
Doc just nodded, "Yeah."
Gilbert searched his inventory. "John, I think I got the perfect thing. A matched set. A necklace and bracelet." He continued looking around and something caught his eye.
"Say eh', you know what size she is?"
"Uh....yeah," he replied sheepishly. "Why?"
"Oh, I think I gotsa nice nightgown here she would look good in," Gilbert replied.

Gilbert pulled the nightgown off the wrack and held it up. It was a beautiful white gown of fine silk that had a nice cut down the middle.
"The cut will show that necklace off nicely," he added with a big grin.
"That it will," replied Doc. He then said under his breath, "hopefully she does not think this as a marriage proposal."
"Nah," replied Gilbert, "wedding gowns have lace."
Doc gave a snort. "Still..." was his answer.
"Ah hell," Doc continued, "I will take them both. Here are her measurements."
"Very good, John," answered Gilbert, "you will have them by day's end. If you have some of that smoked trout available, I will take what you can spare. I make good money on that here." He smiled, "consider it payment."
"Done," answered Doc. "I have plenty. I will see you later."

The chat complete, Doc continued with the start of his day. George and Gracie needed their morning feeding and water and he himself needed breakfast. The cabin was already clean so he wasn't worried too much about that.
